A Redundant Array of Independent Drives (RAID) is a way of providing storage of the same data throughout different places on numerous differing hard disks as a preventive measure in case one or more of these drives falters. Basically, RAID systems mirror data across numerous platforms for data security purposes. RAID levels 1, 3 & 5 are the most commonly utilized levels. Although implementation of RAID services have, in the past, been most commonly associated with business use, the recent falling prices of hard drives has allowed for a RAID crossover into affordable home usage as well.
